"Island Time" a two-person exhibition by Lori Bagnérès & Kathy Bradshaw, Gallery Merrick

You are invited to the opening of “Island Time” a two-person exhibition by Lori Bagnérès & Kathy Bradlshaw on July 4, 5-8 pm at Gallery Merrick, 1804 Government Street in Victoria, BC, Canada

‘Island Time’ is a two-artist exhibition that captures the energy, atmosphere, light, and spirit of Vancouver Island’s dramatic and diverse landscape. Artists Lori Bagneres and Kathy Bradshaw share a deep passion for what is often called “Canada’s Jewel,” interpreting its wild beauty through richly layered techniques and materials.

Though both artists work with wax and plaster, their approaches yield uniquely different results. Lori’s mixed media paintings combine acrylic, cold wax medium & oil paint, image transfer and Venetian plaster to create serene, ethereal compositions. In contrast, Kathy’s highly textured works draw on the ancient techniques of encaustic and fresco, enriched with oil sticks, metallic leaf, inks, and powdered pigments. In both bodies of work, colour, texture, and light are central, reflecting the sensory richness of the island itself.

The theme ‘Island Time’ was chosen to reflect the lived experience and profound natural diversity of Vancouver Island and the surrounding Pacific West Coast archipelago. It speaks to the deep interconnectedness of towering trees, ocean waters, driftwood- strewn beaches, untethered winds, and soft, lingering sunsets. Here, time—and time zones—lose their urgency, yielding to a slower, more mindful pace of life. It is an invitation to immerse oneself in the quiet, rugged beauty of the land, to wander, to breathe, and to be still
